Event has already taken place. Take the opportunity to bring a friend to the concert with Gothenburg Symphony and Santtu-Matias Rouvali!
Choose between this evening’s concert where Tarrodi’s Liguria and Stravinsky’s Petrusjka is on the programme or 31 January with Sibelius’ Finlandia and Symphony No 2. Both concerts, you will meet the our chief conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali who will guide you through the music.
The evening begins with an exclusive introduction to the coming season and after the concert, we meet together in Götaplatsfoajén where the bar is open and more musical surprises await. We want to get to know your friends and hope to attract them to more future concert experiences, so we offer tickets for free for you and your guests. Count on a festive night together!
On the north-west coast of Italy you can find five small fishing cities among the steep rocks: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. You can walk between them by foot on paths through the mountains, and this walk, and the cities, are depicted by Andrea Tarrodi in the atmospheric orchestral piece Liguria.
Petrushka is the story of three puppets appearing in a Russian market, and the ballet music is full of the colours and the whims one may expect to see in such a place. It is surely among the most beautiful music Stravinsky wrote. Time and again the music draws forth smiles: there are carousels, organ-grinders, romance, slapstick – all presented in a marvelous orchestration.
The ballet is filled with compelling Russian dances (some are authentic folk music), beautiful orchestral costume and contagious rhythms – definitely something out of the ordinary in the hands of Santtu-Matias Rouvali.
