Ravel wrote his sonatina for the piano, but when he heard the trio version by the harpist Carlos Salzedos he exclaimed “It could have been composed for this arrangement!” Shimmer and movements in shifting states, from Celtic inspiration and Japanese serenity to French sinew are manifested in the music of Bax, Takemitsu and Ibert when musicians from the Gothenburg Symphony perform in this unusual trio format.
