Music from the South of France like you’ve never experienced it! Trion Sirventés takes the medieval Occitan chant into their own hands. In all humility, the trio shows how music and poetry can reflect the absurdities of the world.
The trio Sirventés is from the south of France from the historical region of Occitanie. Sirventés, literally translated “servant’s song”, was a form of Occitan lyric poetry in the Middle Ages that is far removed from the cliché that reduces the troubadour to a ballad-singing lover in an ivory tower. The form was a protest and satire directed at those in power.
Drawing on their respective backgrounds in Western and Eastern music, popular music and art music, the trio explores the potential of medieval Occitan chant. The legacy left behind by the 13th-century troubadours evolves with digressions and improvisations.
In all humility, Sirventés shows how music and poetry can reflect the absurdities of the world.
