azz composer Sigurd Hole’s latest work contains sound recordings from the Amazon rainforest. The diversity of nature is the theme. With inspiration from the mythology of the Yanomami people, a fascinating tonal landscape and a visually expressive concert are created.
Norwegian composer and jazz bassist Sigurd Hole’s music recently found its way to Carnegie Hall in New York. He has received rave reviews from The New York Times, DownBeat and BBC Radio 3. In May 2022, his latest album Roraima was awarded a prestigious German award.
Roraima was written as a commissioned piece for the Oslo World 2020 festival on the themes of natural diversity and ecological vulnerability. The music draws inspiration from the sounds of the Amazon river and the mythology of the Yanomami people. The grandiose work contains field recordings from the rainforest by the pioneering American audio-visual ecologist Bernie Krause.
Sigurd Hole with ensemble not only creates a fascinating soundscape in a jazz tone, but also a visually expressive concert with video projections. During the course of the concert, the green and blue tones turn our contemporary doomsday prophecies into hope.
