Event has already taken place. Gothenburg Symphony, Andrey Boreyko conductor, Vadim Gluzman violin
The concert was written to celebrate the master violinist David Oistrakh’s 60th birthday, and Shostakovich saw it as a challenge to surpass himself with this birthday gift. He had suffered a heart attack the year before and his apprehension and longing for life colour this intense and profound violin concerto.
The evening ends with a grand première: Victoria Borisova-Olla’s Second Symphony, a piece commissioned by Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, in the safe hands of Andrey Boreyko.
Formerly advertised soloist Sergei Krylov has been forced to set up for personal reasons.
