Georg Riedel is and has been a large part of Sweden’s musical soul since the 50s. He has participated in bands and on albums, both as a bass player and as a composer, which have made Swedish jazz something unique. He has never been afraid to mix musical styles, creating good and beautiful music without caring about genres has always been the driving force.

Lindborg Septett has previously recorded the album “a Swedish Portrait” with Lars Gullin’s music in focus, where the elements of classical music and folk music found in Gullin’s music are highlighted. There, Georg, who started with Gullin’s band in 1953, has now taken over and created music that spans genre boundaries.

Georg has composed eight pieces for the band where he has started from the unusual setting and utilizes all the musicians and their qualities to the max. The band has no chordal instrument, which makes the role of the strings even more important, both as a carrier of the melody and the harmonics. There are also flirtations with the band’s previous record, for example in Gullinarium (place for Gullin) and Stillében which is a tribute to Gullin.

The music has been played, scratched, polished, changed and jammed on. The compositions are Georg’s but the music is also the whole band’s.
