An evening with orchestral and choral refinement. Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms received its title from the Bible’s Book of Psalms. In this work from 1930 for choir and orchestra, church songs are mixed with neoclassical rhythms – “God can be praised in many ways”, according to the psalm text.

Ravel’s music to ballet Daphnis and Chloe is one of the most colourful and refined pieces ever written for an orchestra. From the suggestive opening and the following sensual dances to the tumult when Chloe is abducted and her beloved Daphnis picks up the chase. The ballet music also includes a fantastic sunrise, Pan’s seduction scene, and a final dance that makes the walls of the concert hall tremble.
