In the 4th Symphony, Tchaikovsky is giving vent to his emotions after the short and catastrophic marriage to Antonina Miljukova. The music is strong and full of expression, but also hopefull. The composer wrote: “To appreciate others’ happiness makes it possible to live on.” This is also mirrored in the energetic, exhilarated finale. All recreated by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and conductor Andris Poga.
Bonus: Vasks’ Musica appassionata and the world première of a new marimba concerto performed by Mika Takehara.
A free introduction in the main hall one hour prior to the concert, with musicians from the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
