Music that breathes winter-weary souls to life. The ensemble Norayr Kartashyan & Menua brings a range of traditional instruments, including the beautiful duduk, the Armenian reed instrument made of apricot wood.
Norayr Kartashyan and his sextet Menua play traditional Armenian instruments, including new manufactured hybrids. Duduk, with its flute-like tone, is the most famous. Blul, shvi, pku and parkapzuk are the Armenian names of the other woodwinds. With expressive arrangements, interpretations of the country’s rural music are made. The compositions bloom gently, full of timeless beauty and warmth.
Norayr Kartashyan has collaborated with several Armenian artists and bands. He is also an instrument builder and teacher and sees it as his main task to revive Armenian music and pass it on to the next generation.
Due to difficulties in the world, this is Norayr Kartashyan & Menua’s first concert outside Armenia since 2019, when they participated in the Norwegian Førde Festival.
DJ Said plays records in the foyer before the concert and the bar is open. Bring all your friends and come!
