Event has already taken place. The string instruments violin, cello and viola take center stage in this concert, but piano, guitar and flute are also represented.
Welcome to two concerts where children and young people aged 4-20 play a variety of music, from the youngest beginners to advanced. The Suzuki method has now existed in Sweden for over 50 years and we celebrate this by inviting Suzuki students from all over Sweden to Gothenburg Concert Hall. There will also be a solo performance where Nicole Biegniewska, former Suzuki student in Norrköping, plays Paganini (read more below).
With these concerts, we want to spread Shinichi Suzuki’s idea and philosophy to a larger audience that children have limitless potential to develop their abilities and that all children can learn to play an instrument.
The string instruments violin, cello and viola take center stage in this concert, but piano, guitar and flute are also represented. To enjoy more music with these instruments, see Friday’s concert May 10 in Stenhammarsalen.
The Suzuki method
Professor Shinichi Suzuki was born in 1898 and started playing the violin at the age of 17. He was interested in young children and their development possibilities and his method is found today all over the world. Suzuki called his method the mother tongue method and it is based on the same principles as when a small child learns his mother tongue, i.e. constant listening and repetition, loving correction and praise. In the Suzuki pedagogy, therefore, no aptitude tests are carried out in musicality, just as little as one would test whether a child is capable of learning to speak his mother tongue. The parent’s role is to be present all the time, when the child has his lessons, practices, etc. In this way, you can always help by supporting, praising and sometimes correcting. The cooperation between child, parent and teacher is very close and is the three cornerstones the Suzuki method is based on.
