Nostalgic and melodic chamber music with musicians from the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
Notes that last for eternity. Hear strings from the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in the Goldberg Variations by Bach in a unique arrangement. The evening begins with Poulenc’s emotional trio for woodwinds and piano, bearing traces of times gone by.
French Francis Poulenc is a master of melodies, and was still young when he began composing chamber music. The trio for oboe, bassoon and piano was one of his first major works; it is filled with playfulness and humour, as well as hints of Mozart in the slow andante movement. The result is well-loved and heartfelt music that has been recorded by many musicians.
Six musicians from the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra come together for an intimate evening of chamber music. The audience is welcome to sit close, listen to the players inhale, to the tremble of the strings.
The highlight at this performance is Bach’s beloved Goldberg Variations in a version for string trio. Violinist Dmitry Sitkovetsky’s arrangement is from 1985 and was in celebration of the 300-year anniversary of Bach’s birth. It is dedicated to the memory of Glenn Gould.
The evening’s program also includes a newly written piano trio by the violinist Pierre Guis, a member of the ensemble.
