Since 2011, he is the principal conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington, having previously held the same position at the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Orchestre de Paris. With the latter, he visited Gothenburg in 1999, with an acclaimed performance of Bruckner’s grandiose Symphony No. 9.
