Event has already taken place. A suggestive chamber concert with musicians of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra – and the orchestra’s bag of magic tricks...
Today, the stage is mainly occupied by percussionists – responsible for the symphonic orchestra’s most wicked magic tricks.
Sofia Gubaidulina says she became a composer because her childhood in the industrial Ural town of Chistopol was so boring. She also felt there was too little music around – so she simply wrote her own.
Her approach to music is almost the polar opposite of that of André Jolivet, whose motivation to start composing was more grandiose: he wanted to retrace music back to its ancient origins, when it served as magical formulae in the religions of our forefathers.
Jazz bassist Gavin Bryars has worked a lot with collage as a medium. His most well-known piece is Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet (1971), in which an anonymous, homeless man sings the same phrase over and over again. Just like Gubaidulina and Jolivet, his music explores sounds and colours. Today, the stage is mainly occupied by percussionists – responsible for the symphonic orchestra’s most wicked magic tricks.
Here you will find all the necessary information that you need to know about before your magical visit in the Concert Hall.
