Event has already taken place. Ukrainian Kyiv Soloists were on a European tour when the war broke out. With no way back, they chose to use the music to raise money to support the fellow human beings affected by the war. Now they have arrived to Gothenburg.
Ukrainian Kyiv Soloists were on a European tour when the war broke out. With no way back, they chose to use the music to support their country and fellow human beings affected by the war in their homeland. This evening they play in Gothenburg Concert Hall in support of peace and those affected in Ukraine.
“We play for peace. It is difficult to put our emotions into words…
our families are in Ukraine and we keep contact with them every day; with our parents, siblings and relatives. Our work is tough right now, but we play. Music helps us in this situation, and it is our duty to bring out Ukrainian culture.”
Anatoliy Vasylkivsky, Artistic Leader of the Kyiv Soloists
Music unites us and strengthens the bonds between people. We want to use all the power we can gather to support people affected by an indefensible attack. It is important that the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra can open the Concert Hall for Kyiv Soloists for a week. That we can all open our hearts and assist in the ways we can feels obvious.
We hope that as many as possible contribute to achieving the goal of raising at least SEK 500 000 for UNICEF and their work in Ukraine. During the month of March, your gift will be doubled by the Akelius Foundation.
Donate your gift by following these simple steps:
The fundraising is ongoing until 3 April 2022.
The string ensemble is composed of renowned musicians from all over Ukraine. Together, they have gained success both with their performances of international composers’ works in their home country and interpretations of Ukrainian music. The very work of presenting Ukrainian culture internationally has also given them the award of the Ukrainian National Ensemble.
When Russia invaded Ukraine, the Kyiv Soloists were in Italy and the ongoing European tour was put in a whole new perspective. With no way back, they chose to use the music to support their country and raise money to support the fellow human beings affected by the war. Together with the European network EUNIC – European Union national institutes for culture, a large number of concert institutions joined to carry out a support tour. The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra is one of these.
For a week, Gothenburg Symphony invites Kyiv Soloists to Gothenburg Concert Hall and a musical collaboration for peace, democracy and humanity. On 29 March, they play their own benefit concert followed by participations in Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra’s three concerts the same week; Wednesday 30 March, Thursday 31 March and Friday 1 April. Everyone with a valid Ukrainian passport has free entry subject to availability. Throughout the week, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra arranges a fundraiser for the benefit of Unicef and the work of helping people affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
On 2 April, the Kyiv Soloists will continue with a concert in Vara Concert Hall.
