Event has already taken place. The Swedish Consort, Mime Brinkmann, Adam Grauman, Rebecca Lefèvre, Hanna Thiel and Samuel Runsteen viola da gamba, Fredrik Bock lute, Martin Ödlund percussion
When the puritans came to power in England, theatres were closed, and orchestras were fired. The Thirty Years War ravaged the rest of Europe. Some musicians opened beer houses in Oxford where rich amateurs could play with professional musicians in so-called consorts. Other composers and musicians went abroad to work at other European courts, or for exiled English royals. Mathew Locke was one of them.
England lost its cultural dominance, and we hear French, Italian and Flemish music. This concert is built on the most delicate string music of the 17th century, played on viola da gamba and lute.
