Event has already taken place. Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Barbara Hannigan conductor & soprano, John Storgårds conductor & violin
An exciting and bold concept: one concert with two individuals taking turns as soloist and conductor!
After Beethoven’s powerful drive in the overture to Egmont, prepare yourself for changing characters. During the first half, Barbara Hannigan wields the baton while John Storgårds plays Dutilleux’s lovely Nocturne for violin and orchestra. Then Storgårds ascends the platform, conducting the orchestra as Hannigan sings the beautiful And Once I Played Ophelia by Brett Dean.
Add to that Haydn’s effervescent Symphony No. 64, which with its nickname “Tempura mutantur” – “The times change, and we with them” – is highly relevant. George Antheil, “The Bad Boy of American Music”, has the honour of ending the concert with his fifth symphony “Joyous” from 1948, where he confidently juggles with both Prokofiev and Shostakovich – cheekily and with a twinkle in his eye.
Welcome to a free introduction to the concert one hour before the concert starts, in the Great Hall. The introduction is in Swedish.
