Event has already taken place. Gripping drama with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and conducting soprano Barbara Hannigan.
What drama: a woman scorned by her lover, who begs, appeals and implores him not to leave her. Poulenc’s music to Cocteau’s play La voix humaine is empathetic and understanding of the desperate woman’s despair.
A milder form of sorrow meets us in Richard Strauss’ gripping epitaph for a lost world. A fantastic piece in which 23 solo strings reflect feelings of loss and resignation, as well as the strength to call out in protest. A desire to leave the horrors of the Second World War behind, look to the future and let the ruins be the foundation for a new world.
Canadian Barbara Hannigan has been the principal guest conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra since 2019. With her unparalleled dramatic sense, she is one of the world’s foremost artists when it comes to artistic innovation. Her concerts are intended as exciting holistic experiences where the end result is greater than the sum of the parts. The audience may be treated to a gripping vocal solo, surprising musical combinations or a deeply moving dramatic performance. When she both conducts and sings, a very special feeling is created in interaction with the audience.
Take a seat in the Great Hall one hour before the concert begins and learn more about the music you will soon experience! You will get the stories behind the music, knowledge of the composers and own reflections about the classical pieces. The introduction last for about 30 minutes, it is free and free seating in the hall.
