The most beautiful works from the great romantic, with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada.
In two concerts, we select the most beautiful pieces from romantic Johannes Brahms – music infused with passion and rich detail. Andrés Orozco-Estrada conducts the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in Symphony No. 1, starting off with two classics.
Johannes Brahms never ceases to fascinate with his easily accessible, emotional music. Perhaps the story of unconditional love pertaining to his own fate makes the experience all the more powerful. In any event, he was a master of weaving musical tradition with renewal and capturing the romantic style of his time.
His four symphonies are in C, D, E and F. Who knows if he intended to continue the rest of the scale? Orchestras around the world are now bringing these four key orchestral gems into the future. Each one has something to say about the great composer’s personality.
The concert takes off with the Academic Festive Overture from 1880, a grand orchestral shift into the spotlight, inspired by student drinking songs. If you attended Chalmers University in Gothenburg, you will probably recognise the quoted song Gaudeamus igitur.
Get to know the music.
