Event has already taken place. Meet the spring with song when the Gothenburg Symphony's Vocal Ensemble invite you to a concert together with Mia Strand soprano, Juan Zurutuza piano and Lars Mårtensson viola. Everything under the direction of Katie Thomas.
Meet the spring with song when the Gothenburg Symphony’s Vocal Ensemble and musicians from Gothenburg Symphony Orcehstra. Our most beautiful choral lyricism and newly written favorites come together side by side. Here is something for everyone.
Gothenburg Symphony’s Vocal Ensemble are masters at presenting choral singing in its best form – choral lyricism are interspersed with refined contemporary surprises. A choir with both soloist bravura and perfect harmony with magical soprano Mia Strand as soloist, under the direction av Katie Thomas!
The theme of the program is time, as in the two pieces entitled Omnia tempus habent: “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven”. In Caroline Shaw’s Its Motion Keeps the text reads “Time, like the tide, its motion keeps; Still I must launch through endless deeps.”
Shaw uses Britten’s compositional style as inspiration. The piece is a special SATB arrangement for the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra made by the composer herself. The very popular John Rutter ends the concert when the folk song collection A Sprig of Thyme is performed together with musicians from Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
At the piano sits Gothenburg Symphony’s new star pianist, Juan Zurutuza, who has quickly become a favorite in both chamber music moments and in our orchestral concerts in the Great Hall. We also meet Lars Mårtensson on viola, a familiar face from the orchestra with a fantastic sound in his instrument.
Here you will find all the necessary information that you need to know about before your magical visit in the Concert Hall.
