Event has already taken place. Meet tomorrows stars in this concert with students from the master’s programme of symphonic orchestral playing
The programme is unique, and is run in collaboration with the Gothenburg Symphony and the Gothenburg Opera. The purpose is to prepare the students for work as professional orchestra musicians in an international environment.
Aside from lessons in their own instrument, chamber music and theory, the master’s programme also includes eight orchestra productions with a total of 15 public concerts every school year. Internationally well-known conductors and soloists are engaged for these performances.
Lately, visitors to the orchestra have included Anja Bihlmaier, Eva Ollikainen, Shao-Chia Lü, Olaf Henzold, Shi-Yeon Sung, Patrik Ringborg, Tobias Ringborg, Michel Tabachnik, and Steven Sloane. Notable among the soloists are pianists Roland Pöntinen and Christian Zacharias, violinists Malin Broman and Antje Weithaas, trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth, and singers Monica Groop and Kristina Hansson. Every year, the orchestra also collaborates with the opera programme at the Academy of Music and Drama.
University of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra is an ambassador for the University of Gothenburg, which supports the concert and touring operations. At every concert production, the orchestra is complemented with other students to reach the size required for the production in question.
At this concert, students from the BA programme with a focus on classical music will participate. The three year programme focusses on chamber music and individual development with the student’s own instrument.
