Prolific composer Rebecca Saunders is centre stage at this concert, which explores the magical physicality of sounds.

‘What’s important to me is to make it possible for the listener to experience the magical physicality of the sound, the sound’s tone, colour, mass, weight. That’s what I feel I work with, almost like a sculptor working with different materials,’ says composer Rebecca Saunders, who sometimes lets the instruments reflect and mix with each other. The interaction is the whole point.

Xenakis’ music sometimes sounds like it’s calling and talking to us; it doesn’t create melodies, but rather the floating tonal heights of the conversation.
