Event has already taken place. Four promising young harpists take their place in Stenhammarsalen and offer beautiful harmonies from some of the 20th century's foremost composers. The concert is part of the Harp Festival, which takes place in Gothenburg Concert Hall 17-19 May.
The French romantic Gabriel Fauré loved the harp and took advantage of the instrument’s full register. His Impromptu is a true virtuoso challenge. Across the English Channel, a few decades later, the harp became Benjamin Britten’s favorite instrument when it came to creating new sounds. His harp suite was composed in 1969. Like much of Britten’s music, the suite was written for a friend, the harpist Osian Ellis, and ends with a Welsh tune. The concert is crowned by a newly written work by the young Danish composer and violinist Sofie Meyer.
The quartet we hear at this concert consists of four friends who all studied at the University of Gothenburg’s College of Theater and Music. Claire Moncharmont, originally from France, and Tanne Harder plays regularly with both the Gothenburg Symphony and the Swedish Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The concert is part of the Harp Festival which takes place in Gothenburg Concert Hall from 17-19 May – a unique opportunity to get to know this beautiful and mythical instrument. The ticket price for the chamber concerts is SEK 20-40/concert, so take the opportunity to feast!
