A drama about Tsar Boris Godunov by Alexander Pushkin, with a score by Modest Mussorgsky. The opera was so bold and unconventional that it was refused by the imperial theatres in 1869.

But since then, Mussorgsky’s masterpiece has been rehabilitated and performed in all its former glory. A cruel power struggle in Russian Orthodox society where faith, love, betrayal and bloody fates swirl around in a time characterised by insecurity and instability. With music that – with suggestive power and powerful choirs – recreates ancient mysticism, affecting listeners strongly to this day.
