Johannes Brahms was an artistic paradox, the classical romanticist who controlled his feelings as much as he expressed them openly. Wanting but not daring to, daring but not wanting to. This tension can be extremely charged, if a musician of Thomas Zehetmair’s calibre is behind the performance.

He knows precisely the potential of the violin concerto and has the imagination to implement it. The Swedish Chamber Orchestra is about as large as the orchestra Brahms himself preferred, the Meiningen Court Orchestra, and under the vigorous leadership of Thomas Dausgaard, the audience gets a glimpse of how the Fourth Symphony may once have sounded.
