Augustine Hadelich is one of the brightest-shining violin stars in the world of classical music. Alone on the stage, he presents impressive technical skill with a huge, warm heart. Bach’s beloved partitas begin and conclude the performance.

Italian-born Augustine Hadelich began playing violin at age five; he was a soloist with symphony orchestras already in his early teens. Today he is one of the world’s most in-demand soloists.

In this evening’s solo performance, he moves from Bach to the border between contemporary classical music and African American tradition. Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson was one of the most prominent African American composers, combining romantic style with elements of blues and spirituals. He composed his Blues Forms for solo violin in the 1970s.

David Lang’s Mystery Sonatas comprise seven sonatas named after Catholic prayers, and Hadelich has recorded an album of them.

The evening is framed by two Bach partitas: the rapid No. 3 in E major, with its well-known gavotte, and the more melancholic Partita in D minor.

The evening promises emotional playing and divine moments.
