Event has already taken place. The Baroque Academy of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Stefano Veggetti artistic director
This time, the Baroque Academy presents an exquisite programme with German leanings where rare gems rub shoulders with true masterpieces. Fux was indeed German speaking, but Austrian born, and his Overture in D minor was most likely composed for both pleasure and dance at the Emperor’s court in Vienna. Bach’s splendid Brandenburg concertos are musical marvels to behold – the 5th with a breathtaking solo for cembalo and the 3rd a showpiece of what can be done with tight ensemble of strings. This last concerto was also the starting point for contemporary American/Swedish composer Molly Kien and her commission À la rigueur du gout fin et delicat which here receives its world première. If Johann Sebastian Bach was prolific, he could in no way compete with his contemporary Telemann who composed more than Bach and Vivaldi together! And inspired music it was, which Hamburger Ebb und Fluth unhesitatingly proves.
The ensemble’s leader is violinist Terje Skomedal, and Stefano Veggetti is the artistic director. The Baroque Academy has performed a number of concerts over the years, with visiting soloists and baroque specialists.
