Spanish priest Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611) is among the most famous composers of the Renaissance, along with Palestrina and Orlando di Lasso. Victoria also worked as an organist, known for his sacred and polyphonic vocal music and a master of overlapping multiple choral parts.
Ralph Vaughan Williams first heard Bushes and Briars sung by a shepherd in England. The composer saved the melody and used it later in an arrangement for male choir.
